Cedar Key

Cedar Key       More Cedar Key      Locals     Homosassa

Travis McGee's still in Cedar Key
That's what ol' John MacDonald said
My rendezvous's so long overdue
With all of the things I've sung and I've read
They still apply to me
They all make sense in time

But now I'm incommunicado
Drivin' by myself down the road with a hole in it
Songs with no vibrato
Takin' the long way home

Cedar Key, permanent population 690, is at the end of a 2-lane country road, 55 miles SW of Gainesville. We'll get to the sunsets later. Here is a sunrise looking east across the rooftops of Cedar Key.

We are at Seahorse Landing with a view to the southwest across Goose Cove to the Gulf of Mexico. Seahorse Landing is a set of 15 condo's made up of 5 buildings, 3 stories each. We are the second floor of the fourth building. This is a picture of Seahorse Landing.

Seahorse Landing provides the only rentals with waterfront, dock, pool and sunset views. Most rental condos are on the other side of the key and face East and Southeast. Other rentals on Goose Cove are either not on the water or don't have a pool. For the best of everything on Cedar Key, this is the place to stay. It's a 3-4 block walk to town. Here is the view down mainstreet.

Walking to town you pass some great old buildings. Like this "brow house" version of a church:

Two blocks south of the main street (second avenue) is the city dock, full of gift shops, restaurants

and motels, including this two motel room motel above a gift shop:

A view down mainstreet heading back in the other direction. Notice the heavy traffic.

Meeting one of the locals on the way home.

The Pelican
by Dixon Lanier Merritt (often incorrectly attributed to Ogden Nash)

A wonderful bird is the Pelican,
His bill can hold more than his belican.
He can take in his beak
Food enough for a week;
But i'm damned if i see how the helican.

Back at the condo, we get a formation visit from a couple of other locals

And at the end of the day, a couple of sunsets:
