The Incredible Voyage : A Personal Odyssey, by Tristan Jones. Tristan Jones is famous for his feat of sailing from the lowest lake on earth to the highest. He sails both the Dead Sea in Israel and Lake Titicaca in the Andes. Being shot at by Arabs or facing hunger and fatigue in the Amazon while dragging his ship over land to the next river doesn't stop him from his goals. In fact, they are no more serious than the many exciting events of the novel. The book portrays a life much more full of adventure than of us dream. Paperback, 390 pages

The Air Ministry requisitioning their aerodrome at the start of WW2 starts Ann Davison and her husband on several business ventures, culminating in their purchase and restoration of an old fishing ketch. Short of money, they depart in debt before completion. Their journey through stormy seas evenually ends in shipwreck.

South Sea Vagabonds : A New Zealand Classic Adventure of the Sea the Mariner's Library, by John Wray. Humorous story where a young man in new Zealand with no money builds a boat in his parent's garden. He does so with lumber he gleans from the sea, and, despite the odds, completes his project and sails for Fiji.
