Grutas de Garcia
Grutas de Garcia is found 9 km beyond Villa de Garcia which is northwest of Monterrey and the periferico. An illuminated 2.5 km route leads through 16 chambers in this cave system high in the Sierra del Fraile, reached by a 700 meter ascent by funicular railway. The caves were formed about 50 mllion years ago and discovered by the parish priest in 1843. There are losts of stalactites adn stalagmites, as well aspertified sea shells. Each chamber has a different name such as "The Eagle's Nest" and "The Eighth wonder."

The view on the Sierra del Fraile on the way to caves is gorgeous by itself. Below you get a couple of views of the funicular railway.

You don't have to ride the railway. You can hike up a paved path and catch the views.

We talk with Juan, our tour guide, while waiting for the train to arrive with other tourists before entering the grotto.

Even after being inside, the scenery outside is still memorable.
