| Grutas de
Garcia |
| Grutas de Garcia is found 9 km beyond Villa
de Garcia which is northwest of Monterrey and the periferico. An
illuminated 2.5 km route leads through 16 chambers in this cave system
high in the Sierra del Fraile, reached by a 700 meter ascent by funicular
railway. The caves were formed about 50 mllion years ago and discovered by
the parish priest in 1843. There are losts of stalactites adn stalagmites,
as well aspertified sea shells. Each chamber has a different name such as
"The Eagle's Nest" and "The Eighth wonder." |

| You don't have to ride the
railway. You can hike up a paved path and catch the views. |
