Saltillo
Set high in the arid Sierra Madre Oriental, Saltillo is the oldest city in Northeast Mexico. Less than an hour west of Monterrey, it's a great stop after a morning at Grutas de Garcia. Some shopping and sight seeing, plus excellent food and friendly people makes for a nice afternoon or evening with an easy drive back to Monterrey.

Naturally our first stop is Tacos El Pastor for lunch. We'd have stayed longer but they don't serve cerveza.

Then a little sight seeing, most of it between Plaza Acuna (above) and Plaza Armas (below right).

A little final shopping and a stop to check out the rooftop pool at the Hotel San Jorge, an excellent, well kept hotel in downtown Saltillo at only $46 US for a double.

We make out last stop back at Plaza Acuna for a cold Indio and a couple of shrimp and avocado tostados before bidding farewell to our new found friends below for the trip home. We'll be back.
